Holmes Construction were engaged as the Main Contractor on the P&K General Store Refurbishment, tasked with the construction of the new four square supermarket (demolishing several shops to make way for the new footprint), refurbishing the interior and exterior of the general store as well as add on retail spaces for new tenants. This landmark family run business in Martinborough has been a staple of the local community since 1873, and Holmes are thrilled to have been involved in its refresh and continue the long standing relationship between the Holmes and Kershaw families.
Entering the building through the rear entrance, the glass entryway and exposed brickwork creates a feeling of “looking through the new and seeing the old.” The old timber flooring was replaced with polished concrete, the exterior façade was replastered and the colour features throughout was sourced from historical period colour schemes. Our team also undertook structural steel restrengthening to 75% new building code requirements. The refurbishment also included the addition of two retail tenancies at the front of the store, the new homes for Nara on the Square and the General Store Martinborough.
