Wairarapa College is the region’s largest school catering for over 1,.000 students, and it is also a busy venue for sporting and other community events during the weekend. Holmes Construction was the Main Contractor for the Whare Awhina Supported Learning Centre, collaborating closely with the architects and subcontractors to ensure the facility would be delivered for the college on time and in budget.
One of the most notable design features of the Whare Awhina facility is the complex euro style spanlok exterior cladding on a warm building system. In order to achieve the design, it required a plus or minus 0mm tolerance and was led, undertaken and completed by our third-year apprentice. This demonstrated invaluable problem-solving skills and our attention to detail with the complex design requirements these developments possessed.
The Whare Awhina faclity was designed and constructed with future users in mind, ensuring that a high quality space was created for the future generations at Wairarapa College.
