Working with Architecture HDT (Mark Bates), in 2008 Holmes constructed the Leisure & Spray Pool at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Kilbirnie (WRAC), and then successfully delivered a major refurbishment at the same venue in 2015.
Programming and collaboration were critical to each project’s success. Construction occurred and was completed in a functioning pool with the public present. Holmes effectively planned for, programmed, and managed over 50 subcontractors and/or suppliers.
As with any pool project, the services were very complex. The labyrinth of pipework was a main challenge for the site team along with the very complicated concrete work, the waterproofing of the pool structure, and the requirement to maintain the operation of the existing WRAC at all times.
Holmes completed the WRAC extension on time, assisted by innovative programming and construction methodologies which utilised birdcage scaffold and simultaneous workstreams.
