Holmes was Main Contractor for the construction of a new two-storey commercial building at Coastlands Shopping Centre in Paraparaumu. Takiri South complements and mirrors the existing Takiri North building at Coastlands. The building has a gross floor area of 960 sqm, with office accommodation located on Level 1 and retail tenancies on the ground floor. The tenant first-floor fit out was integrated with the base build.
The site itself is high-profile and close to neighbouring businesses such as a Farmers department store, fast food outlets, offices including a legal firm. Located on a busy street and large-scale carpark, it is also down the road from the local police station and a primary school. In May 2020 the project was featured in a local news article. A safe site was therefore essential, with close attention to effective traffic management and materials delivery, and careful planning and communication to minimise disruption to stakeholders and neighbours. All works were successfully completed in March 2021 under Holmes’ effective project and site management.
A key feature of this project from the start was a partnering relationship between Holmes, the client and their consultants. The original contract programme was achieved by the Holmes team, even as the project started with and ran alongside COVID-19. With careful planning and early procurement of long lead-in time items such as the round structural steel columns, we were able to protect the programme from external influences.
